Legendary bassist of funk Band Cameo and Asheville native Aaron Mills is a renowned bassist, singer, songwriter, and producer. Mills received the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the music industry. He joined Cameo in 1978 as bassist and in 1985 the group recorded Word Up, the title track of which became a hit, peaking No.6 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album reached platinum status and opened doors for collaborations with Miles Davis and Stevie Ray Vaughan. In 2000 Mills recorded bass Lines with Atlanta Hip-Hop duo Outkast. He played on hits like “Ms. Jackson” and “So Fresh, So Clean” along with eight other tracks on Stankonia and Speakerboxx/The Love Below, including Grammy-winning singles “The Whole World” and “Hey Ya!”
Mills is excited to have a chance to perform in his hometown of Asheville for Funk Fest 2018. He will perform his new single “Independent”, and songs from Cameo.
Singer-songwriter, Leeda Lyric Jones is a Western North Carolina Mountain Xpress “best of” award winner in singer-songwriter, all around favorite band and band that gives back to the community. Lyric has shared the stage with legends such as Mavis Staples, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Gladys Knight, Booker T. Jones, Little Big Town, Fred Wesley Warren Haynes and many more
The Funk Attack Band. Howie Johnson, guitar/vocals. Originally from N.Y.C. area has been playing music in Western North Carolina for over 25 years with Howie’s House Party, included on bass Anthony Griffin, Harlan Johnson on Drums, Derrick Gardner on Keyboards/ Trombone along with Ruby Mayfield who has played in several bands including backing song writer and performer Nappy Brown opening up for the Fabulous Thunderbirds and Buddy Guy.
