ABOUT LINDSEY STIRLING:

Lindsey Stirling remains fearless enough to always dream big. In the over five years since the release of her 2012 self-titled debut, the electronic music impresario, violinist, dancer, and artist quietly and humbly became one of the 21st century’s most innovative stars by clinging to her groundbreaking vision of cinematic violin-driven electronic music. After bowing at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and #1 on the Dance/Electronic Album Chart, holding #1 on the Classical Album Chart for 21 consecutive weeks, and receiving a Billboard Music Award for “Top Dance/Electronic Album,” her sophomore opus Shatter Me would not only garner an RIAA Gold certification, but it would rank as the #2 Dance/Electronic Album and #1 Classical Album on Billboard’s 2015 Year-End charts. Attracting over 10 million subscribers and 2 billion-plus views on YouTube, in 2015 Forbes placed Lindsey at #4 on its yearly YouTube artists list, making her the highest-ranked female. Her headline tours would play to a cumulative audience of over 500,000 people worldwide, and her literary debut The Only Pirate at the Party—co-written with her sister Brook S. Passey—became a New York Times Bestseller.  Lindsey’s third-studio album Brave Enough, debuted at #5 on Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart, went on to score the #1 spot on Billboard’s year-end Top Dance/Electronic Album list and earned Stirling a 2017 Billboard Music Award for “Top Dance/Electronic Album”. Last year, Lindsey released her first ever holiday album titled Warmer in the Winter.  Featuring classic and original songs, the album went on to become the #1 new Christmas album of 2017, ahead of pop music heavyweights such as Gwen Stefani and Sia.  It was also the best-selling new holiday album and the best performing holiday album on Pandora with over 40 million spins.    She is re-releasing her top-selling Christmas album this year with a few new songs as well as some Christmas classics.   She was also the runner-up on Season 25 of ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars” with her partner Mark Ballas.  Stirling is currently co-heading a US tour with rock band, Evanescence, and it’s one of Live Nation’s 10 best-selling amphitheater tours of the summer.  Stirling is the model of a modern independent recording artist, with a symbiotic relationship with her fans. A motivational speaker in her spare time, Stirling uses her own story to show teenagers that you’ve got to have confidence in the very thing that makes you unique – then wait for the world to catch up.

The event will take place at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville at 7 PM.

Presale tickets will be available through Ticketmaster beginning Wednesday, August 15th at 10 AM. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, August 17th at 10 AM and will be available through the USCC Box Office, online at Ticketmaster.com, and by phone at 800-745-3000. Sarah McLachlan is one of the most celebrated singer songwriters in entertainment with over 40 million albums sold worldwide. She has received three Grammy Awards and twelve Juno Awards over her career and was recently inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

In addition to her personal artistic efforts, McLachlan founded the Lilith Fair tour, which showcased female musicians and raised over $7 million for local and national charities. In 2002 McLachlan founded her non-profit organization, the Sarah McLachlan School of Music, which provides top quality music instruction at no cost, in a safe and nurturing environment, for at-risk and underserved children and youth. From an early age, music provided McLachlan with the tools she needed to navigate the challenges she faced in her life, so she recognizes how important it is for every child to have those same opportunities.

“We are beyond thrilled that Sarah has agreed to appear on our behalf to help pediatric cancer patients, said Taryn Hoffman, Executive Director of the Green Side Up Foundation. “Sarah is not only a wonderful artist, but she has devoted a generous amount of her time in support of efforts to improve the lives of children and youth. As he curates the set list and arrangements of 4U: A Symphonic Celebration of Prince, acclaimed drummer and creative Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson enlists the talents of GRAMMY® Award winner Brent Fischer—a member of the original arranger team behind Prince—to arrange selected music titles* into an orchestral setting. Additionally, he taps the vast musical talents of Miguel Atwood-Ferguson.

Performing in major markets across North America this fall, 4U makes history as “the first and only official Estate approved symphonic presentation of Prince’s music.” 4U comes to Asheville’s US Cellular Center on Friday, September 14th at 8:00pm with the Asheville Symphony. Prices are $79.50, $59.50, and $49.50 plus applicable fees. Tickets are available through the US Cellular Center Box Office, online at Ticketmaster.com, and by phone at 800-745-3000.

“In that respect, it feels completely apropos for the production to welcome Fischer’s orchestral arranging talents and production experience.” says Questlove. Notably, Brent and his late father Dr. Clare Fischer collaborated directly with Prince throughout three decades. Among countless classic recordings, their distinct sonic fingerprint can be felt on Sign O’ The Times, Graffiti Bridge, and Parade as well as on the big-screen in Under The Cherry Moon and Batman. Cited as one of the “GRAMMY® Seminal Moments” by show producer Ken Ehrlich, the father-and-son duo co-wrote the arrangement that powered the famous 2004 “Prince Medley” as the younger Fischer joined Beyoncé and Prince as an orchestra percussionist during the ceremony.

About his involvement in this historic production, Brent Fischer (Usher, Michael Jackson, D’Angelo, Elvis Costello & The Roots) said, “Questlove is one of the most innovative artists of today. Between his encyclopedic knowledge of and my history with Prince, we see eye-to-eye on so many creative levels and have a deep respect for preserving Prince’s amazing output.”

Meanwhile, Atwood-Ferguson lends his expansive musicality to the production. With credits ranging from Ray Charles to Dr. Dre, the world-renowned multi-instrumentalist, session musician, composer, producer, conductor, and DJ will handle instrumentation.

A full 27-piece orchestra comprised of the world-class talent of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra will breathe new life into timeless smashes as well as deep cuts throughout Prince’s formidable catalog.

On September 14th the Prince Estate, in partnership with Warner Bros. Records, will release the Piano & A Microphone 1983 album. The nine track, 35-minute album features a previously unreleased home studio cassette recording of Prince at his piano captured in 1983. The album is available now to pre-order on CD, LP, Deluxe CD+LP, digital release and pre-save for streaming here: https://lnk.to/PrincePAAM

Sony Music Entertainment and the Prince Estate recently inked an exclusive distribution agreement covering 35 essential previously released album titles from the Prince catalog from 1978-2015.

Hear the music of Prince like never before at 4U: A Symphonic Celebration of Prince.

*For You Intro, Nothing Compares 2 U, I Wonder U medley, It Ain’t Over ’Til the Fat Lady Sings, Venus de Milo/Alexa de Paris medley, All My Dreams/1999 medley

PRESS RELEASE: U.S. Cellular Center invites volunteer groups to apply for concession opportunities

The U.S. Cellular Center is accepting applications from qualified volunteer groups to assist in the concessions operations when needed at the U.S. Cellular Center.

U.S. Cellular Center Concessions Volunteer Program Goals:
The Primary Goal: Supplement paid part time and temporary/seasonal staffing for large events held at the facility. Due to the infrequency of events requiring large numbers of staff, the center struggles to retain enough staff on payroll to fulfill all needs for a large arena concert or special event. In the case of these large events, the center offers the opportunity for volunteer groups to work in concession stands as a fundraising opportunity.

The Secondary Goal: Provide local volunteer groups with the opportunity to raise funds for their given organization.

Recruitment Process:

  • Applications must be submitted via email to Anthony Sforza, Assistant Food & Beverage Manager at asforza@ashevillenc.gov or dropped off at the U.S. Cellular Center box office between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday – Friday by 5 p.m. August 17.
  • Questions may be submitted to Anthony Sforza via email by 3 p.m. August 10. Answers to all questions will be compiled and sent to all interested groups by 5 p.m. August 14.
  • Applications can be found HERE.

Potential Group Earnings Annually:
Volunteer groups working with the U.S. Cellular Center will earn percentages of sales on a commission basis while volunteering with the facility. Groups will earn 10% of gross food and nonalcoholic beverage sales and 5% of gross alcoholic beverage sales.

The U.S. Cellular Center sets a minimum commission on each location guaranteeing a group at least $150 or $250 per night dependent on the given assigned location.

As a group becomes more experienced it can be expected that earnings will increase as experience typically breeds efficiency which in turn breeds increased sales volume and therefore increases commission amounts.

The earnings averages listed below include cash donations. Groups working in concession stand locations or at portable bars may place donation jars on the counter tops. This jars must be plastic and must clearly state that all donated funds are to be given directly to the group.

  • In Fiscal year 2016 the U.S. Cellular Center contributed to over $58,000 in payments to the volunteer groups. Lowest group earnings for a given event was $250 and the highest was $6,024. Volunteer groups covered a total of 64 event shifts throughout the year.
  • In Fiscal Year 2017 the U.S. Cellular Center contributed to over $81,000 in payments to the volunteer groups. Lowest group earnings for a given event was $250 and the highest was $8,184. Volunteer groups covered a total of 69 event shifts throughout the year.
  • In Fiscal Year 2018 the U.S. Cellular Center contributed to over $66,000 in payments to the volunteer groups. Lowest group earnings for a given event was $250 and the highest was $4,526. Volunteer groups covered a total of 100 event shifts throughout the year.

Scheduling Expectations:
Groups can expect on average to be requested to work 8 event shifts annually dependent on event schedule. Total need for staffing levels in the facility is dictated by total ticket sales or expected sales leading into a given event. There will be times that ticket sales in the last week prior to an event will require the addition of a volunteer group. When this occurs groups may be asked to work an event with less that 5 days notice. U.S. Cellular Center Food & Beverage staff commits to request volunteer groups for events with as much advance notice as possible, but short lead times prior to events may occur. Upon signing up for the program, each group recognizes the below highlight events in which the group will be needed.

Event Name Typical Annual Time Frame
Warren Haynes Christmas Jam Second Weekend in December
Southern Conference Basketball Championships First full weekend in March (5 day event)
Concert(s) Halloween Weekend
Concert(s) New Years Eve & December 30
Concert(s) Third Full weekend in February

Scheduling will be handled by the facility’s Food & Beverage Manager or designee and will be handled over email and phone. There is no guarantee of a minimum number of shifts or earnings that a given group will receive annually.

AN EVENING WITH DAVID SEDARIS

The Best-Selling Author, Humorist and Contributor to
This American Life
Live at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium on April 14, 2019

[Asheville, NC], June 19, 2018 – David Sedaris, author of the previous bestsellers Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and regular National Public Radio contributor will be appearing for one night only at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium on April 14, 2019 at 7:00PM, following the release of his newest book & New York Times #1 Best Seller, Calypso.

This is a unique opportunity to see the best-selling humorist in an intimate setting. As always, Sedaris will be offering a selection of all-new readings and recollections, as well as a Q&A session and book signing.

With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, Mr. Sedaris has become one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers. The great skill with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today.

David Sedaris returns to the road following the release of his most deeply personal and darkly hilarious collection, Calypso. Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation toward middle age and mortality. Make no mistake: these stories are very, very funny-it’s a book that can make you laugh ’til you snort, the way only family can. Sedaris’s powers of observation have never been sharper, and his ability to shock readers into laughter unparalleled. But much of the comedy here is born out of that vertiginous moment when your own body betrays you and you realize that the story of your life is made up of more past than future.

If you love David Sedaris’s cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you’re getting into at his live readings. You’d be wrong. To see him read his own work on stage allows his autobiographical narrative to reveal a uniquely personal narrative that will keep you laughing throughout the evening. Don’t miss this event!

All seats at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium are reserved, and range in price from $35 to $50 and are subject to additional taxes and fees. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, July 13, 2018 at www.DavidSedarisOnTour.com.
